I Wasn’t That Sick!

Excerpts from the mail last week:

Dear Eleanor,

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your upcoming birthday.

Birthdays are a time for celebration, but a also a reminder that time is passing and we need to be prepared . Thus we would like to offer you the opportunity to increase your life insurance coverage before the cost of the premium rises on your birthday. We strongly recommend that you take advantage of this offer as none of us wants to leave our loved ones struggling to make ends meet when we are gone. You have reached the time of life where health risks are ever on the increase, and you must take steps to ensure that the security of those you leave behind is protected.

Dear Mrs. X,

Congratulations on your upcoming birthday. To help celebrate the occasion, we would like to offer you a special birthday rate on our services.

Funeral pre-planning is a subject that makes many people uncomfortable. However, it is one of the greatest gifts that we can give to our loved ones. Please contact us to set up an appointment as soon as possible.

Thanks, I needed that.

  1. Thanks Ann. A few appropriate comebacks come to mind, actually. I was kind of aghast, too, Roberta. I mean, sure, it's a dog eat dog world out there in any kind of business, but this is really pushing the limits of decency. Guess it's a good thing I'm not bothered by birthdays, eh? I feel sorry for other recipients who do have birthday phobias, though.Very good way of looking at it, YS! I feel so much better now. 😉 Actually, I was just disgusted at the principle, and hadn't taken either letter the least bit to heart.

  2. Hi Eleanor, ye Gods! Any other time of the year, but your birthday? Do we need it then? Noooooooo….Happy Belated Birthday 🙂 Go Rock!

  3. Exactly, Mary. The letters were kind of tactless anyway, but that much more so with the timing.Oh, and your birthday greeting isn't belated. In fact, you're a week early. Friday the 13th is the day. Now doesn't that have an interesting ring to it? 🙂

  4. Taming the Shrew and Friday 13th…a most definite ring about it 🙂 Interesting, tantalising, intriguing, daring, mysterious, alluring, beguiling, humorous, just to get started…now what else can we add about this woman??? eh?

  5. It is indeed, Michelle. Cool, huh? Thirteen has never been unlucky for me, so no trepidation here. Well, not much, anyway. :)Wow, thanks for that, Mary. Just what I needed to paste a smile on my face for the day! Of course now I have to try to live up to all of that. Eeep! 😉
