Cards were done a few days ago, but I’ve been a bit preoccupied with helping my sister adjust to her new life, which came about all of a sudden on the weekend. Don’t we all love to move to a new city on a week’s notice?! She’s doing fine, but it’s a huge adjustment for her after spending her entire life way out in the country, 10 or 11 miles from the nearest small town. It’s also tough because this wasn’t by choice. But she’s adjusting quickly and starting to see that living in a city on her own isn’t going to be so scary, after all. Seeing her soon to be ex-husband shocked as hell at the fact that she is able to do this makes it feel a tad sweeter, too! The move happened entirely behind his back because that was the safest thing for her, as agreed by everyone involved, from her lawyer on down. But oh to have been a fly on the wall when he found out! There wasn’t a lot that he could do as it was all a done deal at that point. He could squawk, and did, rather loudly. But threats and efforts to block the move would have been a tad redundant at that point. Funny how his plan to drive her into an institution and get the child away from her forever has sort of not really worked out. In fact, it’s all backfiring rather nicely, really. She still has a way to go, but she’s heading in the right direction very, very nicely. Yeah!!! 🙂
The little one is doing well, too. She’s as excited as can be about her new home with her mom. No bad memories, and a space that’s just theirs. “Auntie Eleanor, it has a base-a-ment, and an up-a-stairs! I love an up-a-stairs!” Don’t know when she acquired the Italian accent, but it’s kind of cute. Actually, she was just so excited when she was telling me about her new house that she was running out of breath in the middle of words and had to add the extra syllables. But I’m glad that she’s excited. It’s a cute little house and perfect for a new start for the pair of them.
The move puts them even farther away from me mileage-wise, but time-wise it’s probably about the same. No more leaving the main highway to meander through the countryside at a much slower pace. Richard will be on holidays in a couple of weeks and a jaunt down the highway is in the plans, weather permitting. Just have to see that base-a-ment and up-a-stairs up close and personal, you know!
